A 4-day lockdown is set to take place after polls close on Tuesday night, which one would assume is an indication that the State is aware of just how high risk this "electoral wedding" is about to cost. Jordanians must learn to adapt to the #COVID19 pandemic until a treatment or vaccine is available, or the virus "dries up and dies", said Independent Election Commission Head Khaled Kalaldeh when asked why the #JordanElections were not postponed. https://en.royanews.tv/news/23332/2020-11-08
As of 5pm, voter turnout in #JordanElections is at 21,57% with polls closing in less than 2hrs. Meanwhile, 91 deaths and 5,996 #COVID19 cases have just been announced. A record high for #Jordan.

Also in my thoughts are these 53,000 security forces deployed to ensure the safety of the voting process in #Jordan. I hope they too stay safe during this election. It's a difficult job made more hazardous during a pandemic. https://en.royanews.tv/news/23360/2020-11-09
In Madaba: some #COVID19-infected voters were flagged electronically on entering polling stations while others voted. Relying on registered cases dataset unlikely to reflect reality of holding elections in mid-wave & a health care system on the brink. https://twitter.com/AlMamlakaTV/status/1326199279787118595
Video shows supporters of a candidate in Al-Ramtha crowding outside a polling station. #covid19 https://twitter.com/alurdunyya/status/1326215810151555072
Final voter turnout in #Jordan's 2020 elections is 29% of 4.6 million registered voters. Down, yet again. While #COVID19 will be blamed what number won't show is degree of voter apathy, fiscal hardship & rising mistrust in the institutions, especially with handling the pandemic..
#Jordan's insistence on holding an election despite climbing #COVID19 death toll & cases points to an urgent need for a new rubber-stamp parliament to approve whatever's coming soon. Sadly, that political outcome might inevitably be measured by the lives put at risk today.
