My Top 15 Songs of All Time

A lot of these are much more personal based rather than full on skill/lyrical that all have very special places in my heart

15. Lovely Day- Bill Withers

This song has so much meaning to me as I use to hear this song play every time I would go to my grandparents and it always reminds me of them. It always puts a smile on my face and to here his angelic voice with every verse.

14. Sir Duke- Stevie Wonder

Stevie Wonder always delivers!! Stevie wrote this song as a tribute to one of his idols Duke Ellington who greatly influenced Stevie as a musician. The song is about musicians he felt are important. This song always makes me wanna dance no matter

what the occasion is. It always puts me in a good mood and a song that will forever be related to one of the happiest moments in my life.

13. Thuggin’- Freddie Gibbs

What can I say, Freddie is easily my favorite artist. Thuggin’ was one of the first Freddie songs I heard and it made me fall in love with Freddie. It is a classic Freddie song and truly brings out that gangsta rap we all know and love!! His flow

on the song going from his life talking about and how good it is to do this and stories surviving. Freddie turns any song into twist and turns of what will he say next which makes this song so amazing.

12. Daydreamin’- Lupe Fiasco

Lupe Fiasco is arguably the greatest storyteller of all time. This song specifically I can go on for hours about. From how he talks about growing up in the ghetto to how hip hop is portrayed in videos to even not wanting someone to realize what

the world really is and what it’s holding. While all this is being seen through the eyes of his projects building he’s living in

11. Heartless- Kanye West

This isn’t the best Kanye song but the list is more personal and this song was the first Kanye song I ever heard, as soon as I got home that night I listened to all of Kanye’s discography that I could find. That night started my love for for music.

10. B.I.B.L.E- GZA (Killah Priest)

B.I.B.L.E or Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth is perfect. This track is the last and only “warm” track on the album Liquid Swords, on the other tracks it’s like wandering through the cold after surviving gunfights and ghetto projects,

you get this strength on this last track to push you through the rest of your journey. It is clearly about the instructions given to a soldier that is going to die and it takes you on a spiritual and religious journey before the album ends and the soldier’s life ends.

9. Aquemini- OutKast

I could go on for hours about every single OutKast song and their greatness (no joke) the title track of Aquemini arguably has André’s greatest verse of all time or in rap history. The song states that all things come to an end but the way Big Boi and André

compliment each other so well is that they won’t stop working together and will be one of the same until that day comes.

8. Sitting, Waiting, Wishing- Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson is easily one of my favorite artist of all time. His music transports me to a realm of no worries and constant happiness. This song does just that. He wrote this song for a friend who was trying to get a girl and a way to

help he wrote a song for him to take his mind of things since his friend couldn’t get over this girl. Just a great way to cheer up a friend

7. PROM / KING- Saba

One of the greatest storytelling songs I have ever heard!! There are 2 parts...PROM talks about his experience where he was threatened by his prom dates brother, and how family is important and how close he got to his cousin.

KING tells the story leading up to his cousins death while working on his debut studio album. This is something I can put on and tear up too, not many songs do that but this one definitely makes me think and think.

6. Get By- Talib Kweli

Talib Kweli continues to prove that he is not one to be overlooked and this song shows how talented he is, this song talks about the struggle of how people will be broken down by the system or think that the ultimate goal is to end up like everyone else.

Talib states that you have to do you just to “Get By” but not in that way. Stay true to yourself and look out for your true ones

5. D’evils- Jay-Z

It really personal to Hov from calling his DJ up to record it to preforming it. This song is a message to god from him about how the desire for money/power corrupts all leading to violence. The song emphasizes all the temptations of life and staying true.

4. Mambo Italiano- Dean Martin

Dean Martin can always put a smile on my face and genuinely has the best songs for any type of event. Mambo Italiano takes me to a time where I had no worries and was happy for the longest time!! Listening to this song brings out the child in me

3. Da Art of Storytelling Pt. 1- OutKast

This is the greatest storytelling song of all time. Big Boi and André take on two different stories. Big Boi tells of his encounters with women and that life while André tells a tragic story about a girl he grew up with and how he regrets

some of the things he’s done and wants that forgiveness but it’s too late when he ask for it.

2. Player’s Ball- OutKast

I won’t go into the specifics of what it’s about but this is the song that started my love for hip hop. The first time I listened to this song I couldn’t comprehend how perfect it was. OutKast start my love for rap and music and will always be there.

1. Honeymoon- Johnny Stimson

I can not explain how perfect and amazing this song is and means to me. I get taken back to one of my most treasured moment in my life with every listen of this song. I don’t play it often but when I do I can’t help by tear up because of the amount

of happiness I get from it! This song relates directly to that one moment that I will never forget and that is why I will always cherish this song forever!
