Seriously seriously worried about unrest across multiple countries in the West currently.
Absolutely some of this stuff is being fanned by external adversaries who dislike the West, and you don't need to also be a fan of it to see that.
But also large parts of it are doing that to itself.
Now the relief of the result is wearing off I'm looking at the Republican response and realising - this is just it now. This actually is how states break down.
I'm looking at "20,000 anti-vaxxers, anti-lockdown and far-right people protesting in Germany" and going: yeah, this also feels bad, pre-conflict-y.
I think there is a certain blind assumption that we live in safety and stability and that our institutions and societies will continue to function; or, if there is collapse, it will be for the good. Neither seem clear to me.
I think we should get ourselves out of the mindset of being somehow special or immune from collapse or and erosion of democracy.
