My first real experience with imagery and visualization.
My sophomore year of high school we were headed to the State Tournament. The tournament started on a Thursday. The night before, our assistant coach at the time Toby Wilson had the entire team...
meet at the baseball fieldhouse at 7pm. We had no idea what the meeting was about. As we walked in, he pointed and said âfind a place to lay down on the floor and get comfortableâ. We all spread out and found our spots.
As soon as everyone arrived and got settled...

Toby said, âVisualize being successful this weekend. Visualize hitting, pitching, fielding, everything! Visualize DOGPILING on Saturday.â
The lights were then turned out and the place was silent. You could hear a pin drop. Then, music came over the speakers. He played...

4 songs that I will always remember. Every time I hear these songs, my memory flows back to this moment. (Itâs funny how songs remind us about certain times in our life.) The 1st song was Garth Brooks âThe Danceâ. (I get chills thinking about it) The 2nd song was.....
Phil Collins âIn The Air Tonightâ(You are probably doing the drum solo right now
). The 3rd song was Audioslave âShadow on The Sunâ(I would assume majority of you donât have any idea what this song is...but itâs a BANGER! Youtube it!) The instrumentals more than the words....

take me to a focus level where I can block out everything. The last song everyone probably knows, AC/DC âThunderstuckâ. The
plays the E and B cords and the drummer touches the cymbals in unison with âA-ha, ha, ha. A-ha, ha, ha......THUNDER!â In the fieldhouse, you could....

feel the energy picking up. Then all of sudden, someone threw the lights back on. We all jumped up and screamed at each other at top of our lungs. Mostly things that didnât make sense but basically meant âLetâs go chase a dogpile!â It was a feeling that was euphoric. I havenât..
experienced anything quite like it before or since.
As I left the field that night, I remember being on this âHighâ of energy. I drove my Honda Civic like I was Dale Earnhardt. It was only a 4 cylinder with 200,000 miles on it so I wasnât going too fast
. But I do remember..

speeding down my dirt road
pulling the E-Break coming around a corner and straightening it up just in time to miss the ditch. (Iâm an idiot
). Thankfully I survived that ride home to experience a DOGPILE on Saturday.
In The Finals, The @DailyOklahoman picked us to lose 7-5..
