Poppies .... 😬.
The poppy as a symbol has been hijacked by the right for a the romance of war. To remind the public there are others and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for Britain.
We see this highjacking today with a literal mascot poppy running out for a fun game of sport to wilt at the Last Post.
The men and boys who fought in the First World War were not doing so for the protection of their countries but at the behest of monarchs and they were murdered in a senseless war to appease those above their station.
Today anyone in British media who is not wearing a poppy is deemed an enemy of the state. The logic being if they don’t wear a poppy they must be against Britain.
But many countries that are no longer British also fought. We have our own ways of remembering without the poppy. Outrage at this is nothing more than imposing a symbol to virtue signal. Please continue to give money to support veterans and families
but don’t feel obligated to show to the world that you have given support. We remember in many ways. Just because it’s not yours doesn’t invalidate it
My great-grandfather fought in WW1 and for Ireland’s cause, my grandfather went up north to help his fellow Irishmen. People can remember in their own way
