I love EFF foot soldiers. Every time they get into a mess they look for affirmation from @ThuliMadonsela3 & myself. Cute!Anyway I was busy engaging another group of conservative ideologues. Now let me turn my attention to this matter. Here are my thoughts which you will not like.
1. As I understand the issue, there was a private party held for some students by parents. Accusations have been leveled that only white students were invited. Others have disputed this and indicated that all students were invited. The school had distanced itself from the event.
2. 2 staff members went to the party. Moreover, there are accusations that the school has not attempted to diversify its staffing profile as is required by legislation. If this is the case, then this matter should be addressed through established processes & existing institutions.
3. The EFF unsurprisingly decided to pop up at the school & protest.Parents felt the need to protect their kids & arrived in force to defend the school. Is this unreasonable?I don’t think so given the EFF’s track record in engaging in violent protests. Violent altercation ensued.
4. But where were the police? I have said before that when the police don’t do their job, citizens take the law into their own hands. The EFF demands constitutional rights, but ignores its obligations. It has been allowed to get away with this by both the police and politicians.
5. The lack of political leadership is also disconcerting. The EFF has racially inflamed matters on multiple occasions, and government leaders have remained silent. They politically cowed by the EFF. This lack of leadership is why these racism issues continually re-emerge in SA.
6. Where to now? The EFF will display its toxic masculinity and bring a bigger crowd to the school. Parents - and now the white right - will mobilize to defend the school. The police & government will, as usual, try & play catch up. The net losers: South Africa and its citizens.
7. We need firm leadership.Where racism exists, act proactively and charge the guilty individuals. This is why we have chapter 9 institutions & a bloated bureaucracy. But racism cannot be addressed by the EFF threatening students & citizens. This cannot be tolerated in a democracy.
8. Feel free to respond. Differ, robustly if you must, but respect the rules. If you racist, use foul language, or threaten, you will be thrown out. Our society requires deliberation, but not toxic public discourse. So please respect the rules on this account. Good night!
