For clarity, my retweet of BALPA advising against starting pilot training in the current climate was NOT meant to say “Don’t follow your dreams” and “Don’t become a pilot.” This industry has always, and will always be, a cyclical industry. Since I started we have had .. (1/3)
Gulf war 1, Gulf War 2, 9/11, SARS, MERS, Swine Flu ... I could go on. I got caught in the aftermath of Gulf War 1 and was laid off for 4 years before starting flying after training. The difference was I was fully sponsored and had no debt to service. I will ALWAYS .. (2/3)
Encourage people to fly for a career. It is a fantastic, enjoyable and challenging job. BUT.. Pick your moment. It’s a HUGE investment to get your license. The next couple of years will be variable so if you’re not already training then maybe pause and wait. (3/3)
I would hate to think I was putting anyone off dreaming about flying for a career so I’m sorry if my cautionary note the other day came across the wrong way, but I’ll always give you the straight answer on here, positive or negative. Hope to see you all in my sim soon
