I interviewed @SenToomey about his plans for chairing the Banking Committee if Republicans hold the Senate. The Q&A is on @POLITICOPro but I'll share some highlights. https://subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2020/11/politico-pro-q-a-sen-pat-toomey-2016488?source=email
As for Covid relief that may fall under the Banking Committee's jurisdiction, Toomey said "I would not want to turn what are supposed to be liquidity backstop credit programs into a fiscal giving away money program." In his view, Fed programs in place now are "wildly successful"
Toomey's top priorities would be overhauling housing finance, boosting the capital markets, digging into financial technology and encouraging the opening of more banks.

"Under any scenario, we're going to need bipartisan support to do any anything major."
Toomey doesn't think it's necessary to implement new financial regulations to address climate risk. "Banks are very, very capable of evaluating the risks that they have in their lending portfolios."
On digital currency and payments, Toomey says he wants to find consensus on how to achieve "more convenience, lower-cost transactions, faster transactions, and we still maintain our status as the world's reserve currency, and we maintain our ability to control monetary policy."
Toomey on how he'd handle Biden nominees: "I am of the view that a president does deserve the opportunity to populate the executive branch with the advice and consent of the Senate."
