I really want y’all to educate yourselves on food deserts.
The government is to blame for every health related problem black people face. Idc.
There is a reason why you don’t see any Whole Foods stores in low income areas.
There is a reason why you see a plethora of liquor stores and McDonalds in low income areas but little to no fresh food markets or stores like Whole Foods.
People will eat what is accessible for them. You deserve to eat what you want whether you’re receiving government assistance or not.
Fuck what society deems “healthy”. Even the “healthy” foods in grocery stores are chemically engineered to have a longer shelf life and can harm your body. Most “organic” foods are purposely overpriced so that they’ll be less accessible to poorer people. This is not an accident.
Civilians are not to blame for the health issues they face as a result of a government that purposely and intentionally sabotages them. Food apartheid is a very real thing with real life consequences.
There is a reason you can easily find guns and fast food restaurants in underprivileged areas. The government is trying to kill off black and brown people through our food sources. They always have. This is not a secret.
Community organizers work their ASSES off to help provide healthier food options in low income areas. They have and continue to FIGHT for poorer people to have access to fresh food.
Not everyone can afford Trader Joe’s and they know that and they like it that way. So they keep the prices high and intentionally place their stores to attract higher income predominantly WHITE customers.
You will ONLY find stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s in gentrified higher income areas. Always in a shopping center and typically near a mall.
We SHOULD be shaming the government for not allowing people with EBT cards to buy basic necessities like SOAP, LAUNDRY DETERGENT, TOILET PAPER, SANITARY PRODUCTS, DIAPERS, ETC. Those cards only allow you to buy food. Anything else you’re on your own. That’s not right.
