Today is the anniversary of Kristallnacht (The Night of Broken Glass) and I haven’t seen anyone talking about it so here is a thread on what Kristallnacht was
Kristallnacht, also known as the Night of Broken Glass, was one of the many Nazi pogroms against the Jewish people in Germany. It took place on the 9th-10th of November 1938 and claimed the lives of almost 100 Jewish people and took over 30,000 Jewish people to Nazi death camps
in case you don’t know what a pogrom is, it is a violent and destructive riot aimed to murder an ethnic or racial group.
on Kristallnacht, Nazis torched, desecrated, looted and destroyed Jewish shops, schools, homes and synagogues leaving shattered glass all over the ground (hence the title “The Night of Broken Glass”). In the city of Berlin alone 9 out of 12 synagogues were destroyed
Children within Jewish orphanages were tossed into the streets and watched their buildings burn, Jewish people were murdered and beaten in the streets.
In total, 7500 Jewish businesses were destroyed and looted, 267 synagogues were burned, over 177 blocks of Jewish homes were destroyed and 91 people were killed
in the aftermath of Kristallnacht, the Nazi Party fined the Jewish people of Germany for $400 million for damages and to pay that, the government began to seize Jewish property.
