I think the reason so many White Liberals™ are preaching compassion and empathy with Trump supporters is that a) their idea of compassion is shallow and incomplete, and b) they have no idea what form true compassion and empathy should take. So let me talk about this...
Trump supporters voted for racism, pure and simple. Building the wall, the Muslim ban, concentration camps - these are all obvious and horrifying examples of racism. And voting for racism generally causes them to vote AGAINST their own interests.
Rich white people have been exploiting poor white people since time immemorial, but in the US, post civil war in particular, they've used racism and fearmongering to manipulate them into protecting the interests of the rich.
And part of how they've done this is feed into fear and hatred of black people. Obviously the white poor aren't being taken advantage of! They have every chance of becoming rich and powerful! (No, they really don't.)
No matter how poor they are, they can look down at Black people, at immigrants, of people "taking advantage of the system" when "the system" is often keeping them alive. The GOP KNOW THIS and use it every fucking election to get these people to vote for their own destruction.
Do you want to show compassion to Trump voters? Vote against them. While many are racist, privileged assholes who don't need help, those "working class whites" will destroy themselves to create a false sense of superiority.
Look at the ACA. These people have been brainwashed into thinking "Obamacare" it's a socialist plot by a Black man who wants to take all their money and give it to cheaters and immigrants. But the ACA? Oh the ACA is good, it's how they get their medicines and treatment.
They're ready, willing, and eager to remove rights and support from others, but shocked to learn that they'll suffer as well. They rabidly support repealing Obamacare, either not knowing or not caring that it will hurt them as well, as long as it hurts the undesirables.
Trump voters are (presumably) human beings and therefore deserve basic human rights, even if they don't understand that. So you vote against them. You vote for their interests even when they won't. THAT is compassion, not wiping their tears because their fascist candidate lost.
Having your candidate win is not a human right. Trump is a genocidal rapist who is backed by a veritable cabal of evil. No one deserves sympathy because he didn't get elected. Did you vote for Biden? Then you've showed them all the compassion they need.
