Was off twitter for the Everton match but I do feel the need to mention that it was Lindelof losing a duel that once again lead to a goal for our opponents. Our defence is still not _the_ problem, but if our defence has _a_ problem it is him.

Four men in the box, not a single run being made. Everything is static, even when we get the ball into these areas. Shaw ultimately lofts a speculative delivery into the area, and it's only Bruno attacking the ball that creates the goal. Numbers is only half the equation.
I'll also add that two of our biggest defensive breakdowns in this match were, first and foremost, down to the some of the most lacklustre pressure I've ever seen. This forces McTominay to pull out to prevent the wide overload, and ultimately isolates Lindelof
While it would be nice if McT had a little more awareness, this isn't primarily his fault. It's a structural issue
Honestly this was one of our worst defensive matches under Solskjaer from the perspective of keeping the ball out of dangerous areas. Everton very easily could've created and scored more without some solid centreback play from Maguire
went back to the Arsenal match and my favorite thing about this from Lindelof is how clearly aware of Saka he is yet how helpless he is to actually defend the ball for him
Everyone knows how good at exploiting holes in a backline vdb is. Everyone knows how reliant we are on combination play. Now look at how the two converge to create inefficiency in the final third: here matic can play vdb into space behind the back line....
as vdb likes to let the ball run in these situations. Because they rarely play together, matic isn't ready to play this ball. Instead he goes around Partey and is again presented with the opportunity play vdb in, where he can then cut back for Cavani...
But because our attack is so predicated on playing to feet rather than to space, matic opts to play the ball inside of donny, thus recycling what could've been a great opportunity into a less threatening position
A simple wide overload here with numbers moving into the box. The Rashford-->McT-AWB layoff is easy, and on, but Rashford opts instead to shoot from this position. Inefficiency in our shooting tendencies hurts us again
2, arguably 3, mistakes here in transition vs. Chelsea. Kante and Chilwell execute successive switches of play catching Shaw way out of position getting back. On the second switch, Lindelof loses Werner and United are lucky to escape unscathed. AWB arguably at fault here...
as well, but when you watch the clip it seems pretty clear that, though AWB doesn't put in as much effort as you'd life, Lindelof is the only one who truly could've made the stop.
Something resembling an attempt to overload the left wing here. That's nice and all, but because both James and Rashford pull left, there's not a soul occupying any member of the back line. What's next?
Some admittedly nice combination play breaks Rashford behind Chelsea's back line, but no one is central to play the ball for, and Rashford has at least four men to beat for a shot. James notably does a horrible job here to clear space by running for the byline...
And because there's no one attacking the six yard box, we're forced to settle for a heavily pressured shot from outside the box in one of our most threatening breakthroughs. We suppress our own shot quality at times. Mata does nothing wrong here, it's a structural issue
