As we look forward to 2022 ...
In 2012, I was approached about working in Pennsylvania (again) for the 2014 cycle.
A D.C. operative said to me, oh yeah, our gubernatorial nominee is gonna be Allyson Schwartz.
I was like, have you talked to anybody in Pennsylvania about that?

The Dems' gubernatorial nominee was not, in fact, Allyson Schwartz. She was a great congresswoman! But my point is, sometimes it's helpful to get outside of the D.C. bubble and think outside the box, instead of assuming it will be someone who is "next" or who is on the right team
It turns out Tom Wolf was a great fit for the Pennsylvania electorate (it did not hurt that he was able to self-fund).
But it sort of looks like Midwestern voters like business people as candidates. See Rick Snyder, Tom Wolf and (unfortunately) Donald Trump

Also check out the popularity of John Fetterman. He was not the anointed candidate of the DSCC in 2016. (Again -- nothing against Katie McGinty, she is awesome!) But maybe Fetterman would have been a better candidate against Toomey, if D.C. types hadn't gone all-in for McGinty.
