In all honesty, it really is hard to be motivated to encourage younger generations from underrepresented groups (especially ethnic minorities) to pursue a career in Earth Sciences or in academia especially from my own experience and from what I witness happening to other WoC.
A lot of careers do not seem rewarding to ethnic minorities. The mining and Gas & Oil industries don't appeal to some of us as our families come from countries that are threatened by either mineral exploitation or climate change.

This is largely what Geology is associated with.
Compared to other Physical science subjects, the perception of Earth Sciences doesn't provide a similar or attractive level of transferrable skills especially if you wanted to change career paths.
I've been told at *science* career fairs they don't know what I could do for them.
During my undergrad, the Physicists, Chemists and Engineers were sought by consulting companies, financial corporations, and interchangeably with other scientific organizations.

Earth Scientists don't move between different sectors or research groups with the same ease.
Some of us pursued a PhD, not just because we loved doing research but to gain skills that could make us more valuable in the job market but we're struggling to find jobs, especially one that values us, and we're seeing master's & bachelor's graduates getting better jobs than us.
