1/ In memory of #Reichspogromnacht aka #Kristallnacht, I'm posting before&after pics of German synagogues + images of digitally reconstructed ones from the team at @TUDarmstadt. To start: their reconstruction of the interior of the Hanover synagogue, and a shot from Nov '38).
2/ The Hanover synagogue was built c. 1870. After its destruction by Nazis, the Jewish community was billed for cost of demolition. At least 316 Jewish men arrested 9/10 Nov, sent to Buchenwald. 2400 Hanover Jews deported to the East during war, only a handful survived.
3/ Two images from Darmstadt - one from Nov 1938, and a digital reconstruction of the lovely synagogue interior. (Darmstadt, like many German cities, had at least 2 synagogues, these may not be the same one. I believe ALL Jewish houses of worship were destroyed, however.)
