i LOVE listening to costume designers talk about their work. they really think about everything. no bracelet, no little patent leather belt, no color, escapes their vision and everything has a reason. down to the last shoelace.
if you are watching a movie or a show and think: wait, does that costume choice mean something? 99% of the time the answer is yes. costume designers obsessively think through palettes and cuts and there is likely a purpose to everything you are looking at.
the use of yellow over and over in the women's outfits in scorsese's after hours? not an accident (rita ryack, the designer for that film, is so good)
