I’m not anywhere done with AC Valhalla but so far it’s my favorite between Origins and Odyssey. I like how combat, like parrying, remains skill based but feels closer to the old games. I love how open ended missions are in story and objectives.
The AI is janky. The game is janky. It’s almost like a Bethesda game. Eivor’s beard would grow out of his lips. Capturing a queen ended with her swimming out into the sea and staying there. And it crashed on me 3 times. https://twitter.com/jimhofmann/status/1325829512614055936
But then there’s a mission where you had to negotiate with a woman barbarian. I chose instead to cut off her head in stealth. The story adapted and played along with my murderous intent. Never seen that in an AC game before.
It’s meh same as it was in origins and odyssey. Again, assassins creed is largely moving away from cinematic adventure to open word rpg. That means using the in game world to puppeteer the story. It won’t hit the heights of the oldest games. https://twitter.com/legendofzelden/status/1325831035821592581
But there’s no level gating. You can tackle high level areas at any time and be reasonably successful if you’re stealthy enough or your raiding party distracts people enough. No mtx tied to progress. No loot grind, only unique weapons and armor sets. Lots to find. Dense world.
the game also takes you to some pretty wild places, places that i've only just yesterday began to discover.

but knowing how much of the game lies ahead of me (potentially 60 more hours), i'm pivoting to ..... #godfall .
no more endless loot grind system. you get a weapon or armor, you can upgrade it and use it. i have far less weapons in my 20 hours than i ever did in the first 3 hours of the previous 2 games. this game wants you to invest in your sets. https://twitter.com/MessyFingers/status/1325832518873083905
oh i didn't mention my favorite mechanic: the skill tree. it reminds me of FFX's Sphere Grid system, in which you just take a journey through a grid of abilities to unlock.

best part: it's respeccable at any time. found a skill branch you could use now? reset one and reallocate
