I am so happy to be able to say, the longest 8 chapters (and 7 years!!) of my life are finally over!

PhD complete ✅

The association between running kinematics & common overuse injuries in runners. Implications for injury & rehabilitation.
Full time work & writing a thesis created more challenges than just a PhD. At times it nearly broke me, but overall I think it’s helped shape me. A dichotomous experience where I can only say it’s the worst thing I’ve ever done, but the best thing. And I’d do it all again!
Despite the challenges, there have also been some great moments...

In the beginning we had to fund the PhD. So we launched the Running Performance Clinic. A University based Running Clinic providing 3D gait analysis which I’ve operated for the last 8 years.
The service was designed to generate income and a data stream to support research at the University while also providing a clinical service to our patients.
Since launch in 2013 we’ve tested more than 600 runners, supported 4 MSc’s, 5 UG work placements, multiple summer placements & of course, helped me finish this PhD.

To all of those that spent time in the clinic with me, thank you! 🙏 You’ve been a massive part of this journey.
Juggling work and study has probably been the greatest challenge.

Creating our own business @mile_health expanding the running clinic @mihp_uk & working in elite track & field. All while trying to find time for data processing, analysis and writing.
Despite best efforts to plan PhD time, injuries don’t take a day off, so quickly plans change.

Weeks are predictably, unpredictable!
But this has also given me some valuable learning experiences. The opportunity to work with some amazing coaches, athletes and clinicians; all of whom have taught me as much as I have hopefully helped them..
... it’s taken me to some nice places too 😝😂
So in all, despite the immense stress, it’s been a worthwhile learning curve. And one that will continue... because having set out to answer one question, i now have even more questions then when I started! 🤷🏻‍♂️

PhD anyone?? 😝
