If nothing else, I think political reporters and political scientists are just much more self-conscious about what their own views are and how many people disagree with them. If you talk to professors in other fields, they are often very much not self-conscious about these things

And of course, this is a generalization. Some areas of research are different than others in this regard. And there are certainly examples of bad behavior out there.
