I was really excited until I read their actual statement.
"the company said results from 94 evaluable cases of COVID-19 among study participants indicated the vaccine is more than 90% effective in preventing COVID-19." https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/11/09/933006651/pfizer-says-experimental-covid-19-vaccine-is-more-than-90-effective

94 IS SMALL. And because they're not giving people the vaccine and then directly exposing them to covid in a controlled environment, there are LOTS of confounding variables.
I'm not bashing on the trial itself, I'm mad and the headline and the scicomm. If we're going to be accurate and nuanced about anything, let it be this MAJOR PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY.
i.e. all of this. I'm hopeful, but also: https://www.statnews.com/2020/11/09/covid-19-vaccine-from-pfizer-and-biontech-is-strongly-effective-early-data-from-large-trial-indicate/
