This morning @uoftmedicine created a space for us to discuss the many injustices led by physicians during the Holocaust. Here are a few of my key takeaways from our lecture by Dr. Lefkowitz and a panel with Pinchas Gutter, Dr. Lisa Andermann, @GianniLorelll, and @DrLisaRobinson...
1. Remember that every individual had a childhood. They have dreams and they have aspirations.
2. Help humanize everyone you encounter.
3. Humans are capable of doing bad things and understanding this can help prevent us from doing harm to others.
4. We should not forget when bad things happen. Instead, we should remember them and use them to make things better.
5. Don’t let the fear of reprisal push you to stay complicit - stand up for what is right and voice your opinion.
