I have a take, after mulling it over this weekend. Thread:

The #Hokies had an incredibly successful run in the #ACC from 2004-2011. The athletic department at the time did not capitalize on the high-level football being played from a donor enthusiasm standpoint.
As Clemson came up through the #ACC and donors started to back their program, Virginia Tech didn’t match a thing that the Tigers were doing, from recruiting, to athletic booster support.
Virginia Tech didn’t capitalize on the best run on the football field in school history. The downfall of Tech began at the end of the Beamer tenure in 2012 on the field, but really began far before that, when the #Hokies were having some of their best successes as a program
Now we’ve reached a dire scenario. Coach Fuente and Virginia Tech don’t seem like a good fit, the program has been largely mediocre for the better part of a decade, and the financial support isn’t where it needs to be
The point is, I’m not sure where the Virginia Tech football program goes from here. If you can’t garner enough donor enthusiasm when the program is at its peak, the floor can be lower than anyone has ever expected when on-field performance bottoms out.
Liberty was the breaking point. The fans are out on the program, and short of an #ACC Championship VICTORY next season, there’s nothing that saves this coaching staff in my opinion.
And for those calling for a change right now, it’s not happening in a COVID year, at least not with how things stand now from a dollars and cents standpoint. Maybe something changes but in my opinion, the #Hokies are tied to this staff for at least another year.
So at this point, as a fan and alum, your only choice is to back the program and hope it gets better in the interim. Unless the finances change, nothing is changing from a staff standpoint anytime soon. Expect the worst every Saturday, but hope for the best.
