8 Key Highlights from United’s 3-1 Win over Everton in the Premier League: the good and the bad.
1. Between The Lines.

Issue: Everton’s midfield looked to prevent central progression of the ball.

Adapt: Bruno and Mata moved into half spaces and allowed AWB to push higher.

Adapt: Shaw acted as both inverted FB to create a 3-man midfield and overlapped to exploit width.
2. Breaking The Lines.

This ball by Fred is an excellent example of what MUFC need to do more of: passing into space. Why?

Attempt: Disrupt the defensive organization of the opposition and exploit the space left behind.

Result: EVE slow to react — chance created.
3. Goal conceded.

Everton’s goal was a sequence of 3: one long ball to Calvert Lewin, a header to Bernard, goal.

1. Lindelof fails to win the header.

2. AWB’s positioning was suboptimal to block/delay the shot.

Our right flank was constantly exposed. Win your duels.
4. Dynamism.

United seemed predictable and static the last 2 games.

Against Everton, United had multiple patterns of plays to cause them trouble — one of them? Long crosses and Switches.

1. McTominay’s cross to Rashford > shot.

2. Fred’s lofted cross to Rashford > shot.
5. Equalizer’s Highlights.

A. Martial’s great close control and hold up of the ball.

B. McTominay’s exploitation of space.

C. Mata’s 1-2 with Rashford to go in behind Everton.

D. Shaw’s wonderful cross. Bruno’s excellent run & positioning. Header.

E. Players in the box!
6. The Second Goal.

Again, excellent recognition of space by Fred allowed MUN to bypass Everton’s midfield and transition very quickly.

Rashford recieves and turns quickly, lays it off to Bruno.

Header or not, great run by Rashford here!
7. Maguire.

Maguire is one of the best when it comes to aerial duels — and was absolutely vital to our defense.

Below is one of the many examples. He had 4 aerials won and 7 clearances.
8. Deadly At The Counter.

1. Maguire’s interception wins the ball.

2. Bruno makes the run but with time to make the correct decision. Look at how he opens up his body here to trick his opponents to think he was shooting.

3. Cavani with excellent positioning and finish!
