How to stay calm 101

🚨THREAD🚨
1. Breathe deep

Stressful situations put you into fight or flight mode which is accompanied by quick, shallow breathes.

Deep breathing takes you out of that state and allows you to regain your calm.
2. Workout

This doesn't have to be a full blown HIIT workout.

A simple walk or run will work just as well.

The body releases serotonin when engaging in physical activity. This helps to calm you down.
3. Shift Your Focus

Whenever you're in a stressful situation always ask yourself

"Is this something that I can control?"

If it isn't then don't worry about it.

Never worry about things you can't control.
4. Challenge Your Thoughts

You tend to have irrational thoughts when you're angry or anxious.

Ask yourself these questions

"Is this likely to happen?"

"Is this a rational thought?"

"Has this ever happened to me before?"

"What's the worst that can happen?"
5. Look at the bigger picture

Will this situation matter to you a year from now?

6. Relax Your Body

Your body tightens up when you are stressed.

Relax your jaw

Drop your shoulders

Stop furrowing your eyebrows
7. Journal Your Thoughts

Write down your thoughts.

Don't worry about proper spelling or sentence structure either.

Just write what you feel.

This takes the thoughts out of your head and places them on paper.
Life is full of stressful situations so make sure you arm yourself with the tools to face them head on.
