I haven't tweeted in quite a while but there seems to be a major issue that's going under the radar / not being talked about enough. This is the issue of oversupply #footballindex
People will argue (and I used to be one of those people) that "the number of shares in a player is irrelevant as dividends are paid out on a per share basis" and in terms of pure dividend yield, this is correct,
However, in terms of a player's price and the volatility and risk involved, this is certainly not correct.
The current mechanic that Football Index have in place goes against the basic economic principles of supply and demand. You can't have a situation where demand increases = supply increases but demand decreases = supply stays the same.
If sentiment is at an all time high and no one wants to sell, don't worry FI will sell to you at just 1p above peak but once sentiment turns, you need to find another trader to buy off you and if sentiment turns badly then tough sh*t, you're stuck with them until sentiment turns
Let's look at some practical examples.

Gabriel Magalhaes and Wesley Fofana are two young central defenders who joined the PL this summer and have both gotten off to good starts. Unfortunately for Gabriel and his holders he got off to too good a start by winning PB before 4pm
Next, let's compare Michael Keane who had the audacity to win PB before 4pm and Leonardo Spinazzola who was wiser and waited until after 4pm
And finally, let's look at the bottom end and compare Stefan Mitrovic who was trading at 30p with no shareholders to Aaron Cresswell who everyone knew but didn't want at 28p. Again Mitrovic did the business before 4pm whereas Cresswell waited until after.
The wide awake people among you may have realised they all have something in common, they're all centre backs who traditionally have low demand and have now been oversupplied and "broken" forever but this isn't just a centre back issue although Hummels will have this issue soon
Compare those charts to Edmond Tapsoba who IPO'd at a very high price and therefore has very few shares in him and look how stable his chart is.
Then, look at Matthijs de Ligt who had a lot of shares and sentiment but a large portion of his shares were IS'd back to FI when his sentiment changed and his chart is much more stable because of this given he has been injured all season.
Players like Boulaye Dia, Cristian Tello, Henrik Mkhitaryan (after yesterday) will all fall victim to this issue and we're only a few weeks in. This time next year the list will be so long and you won't be able to keep track of which players are affected by this.
This brings us to another issue, there is currently no way of knowing how many shares are in circulation for each player. How can we be expected to trade effectively if we don't have those basic details to help us understand the risks involved? #footballindex
People can't genuinely think it's OK that Sancho has the same amount of shares in him as he did when he was twice the price. What happens if next summer he signs for any team other than Man United? He should still be the player with the most shares in him?
What happens in a year or two when Messi heads towards retirement? Should he still have the 5th/6th most shares in issue? God forbid he goes to City beforehand and has even more shares issued. That race to the bottom will not be pretty
The way I see things, FI have three options

1) keep their head in the sand and think this isn't an issue

2) stop minting shares and have a limited supply for every player

3) re-introduce a form of IS 20-25% lower to remove shares from circulation when required

#footballindex
Option 3 is obviously my preferred option and don't worry I'm not asking for a return to the old IS of 5% that just "bails out bad bets" and isn't sustainable with these divs. This would be an automated thing and the same across every player, just like the issuance curve.
When a new share is "minted" at £5 for example by them putting in an offer at £5, they would also automatically put in a bid at £4. As with before, ISing back to FI leads to the share being removed and the "peak" they can mint at being reduced
I understand it's a lot to get your head around and not everyone will agree with me (I didn't agree with me until a few days ago) but I have seen the light now and I hope others will too #footballindex
And remember this is all while the "stabilizers" are still on, what would have happened to these players prices without the 1p rule? what price would Mkhitaryan have been at 7.30 this morning? what price would Hummels have been once Aguerd passed him?
