As a survivor of sexual assault in politics who told their story & who spoke to @4corners, I'm disappointed. This story does not engage with the complex reasons Liberal staffers are sexually abused/aren't promoted. Its main focus is the hypocrisy of religious men having affairs.
I said I'd go on the record about how my multiple complaints were never handled. I said I'd facilitate interviews w/ survivors who wanted to speak about sexual violence & reforms needed to prect us. @4corners declined. I assumed WOC & survivors like me were profiled. None were.
@sallyrugg is right. I value a woman with her profile speaking out. This story is not for us. It won't help us. It doesn't meaningfully engage with any of most significant issues raised by women in politics I've heard over the past year since setting up a site for survivors.
If you would like to help create change, or speak to a fellow survivor for support, I'm here. You can reach out via DM, or on http://www.changingourheadline.com . If you require immediate support after this story, support is available through specialised helplines. https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/sexual-assault-and-abuse-helplines
To women - esp privileged WW - tweeting in support of tonight's story: stop. No WOC, queer/minority survivors were centred. Horrifyingly, @4corners instead let @sarahinthesen8 tell an unnamed survivor's story w/ no proof of survivor consent/agency over how/if her story was told.
It's reflective of trauma @abcnews has caused for survivors like me (covered by @Jacko) that tonight's @QandA panel on sexual abuse in the Liberals included @Jan__Fran, @TurnbullMalcolm & Paul Kelly but no Liberal women survivors. Panellists should have demanded our inclusion.
