BREAKING: 🇩🇪 @BioNTech_Group’s vaccine found to be 90% effective in protecting against Covid-19, vastly exceeding regulatory criteria, and putting it on track for approval in the EU and US within weeks.

The company says it can manufacture 50m doses this year, and 1.3bn in 2021.
Nasdaq-listed BioNTech up 10% in pre-market trading, while vaccine development partner Pfizer is up >5%.

Pfizer boss calls it “a great day for science and humanity”.
“This is an important step for science, the data showed that a vaccine can work," Ugur Sahin, co-founder and chief executive of BioNTech told the FT. “The likelihood that other vaccines are going to be also successful increased today”.
Worth noting that several countries have already secured doses of the vaccine (which requires a booster shot).

🇪🇺 200m doses, currently under negotiation
🇺🇸 100m doses (with an option to acquire another 500m)
🇯🇵 120m
🇬🇧 30m
... among others
BioNTech's boss told the FT the companies would “use a fair approach” when it came to distributing the first doses of the vaccine, adding that they would prioritise deliveries to countries where it had been approved for use. (Which looks like US and EU first).
