Seeing friends try to figure out how to help win the Senate seats in GA. There are a few options and I see a lot of people donating to Stacey Abrams group Fair Fight. They've done great work but I want to encourage you to donate directly to the candidates. Here's why 1/n
1- Fair Fight Action is a superPAC. In 2020 they raised $33 million mostly from big donors (Bloomberg gave $5 million) and spent $22 million. They had $11 million in the bank as of Oct 14. They don't need $20 from you. They can call Bloomberg. https://www.opensecrets.org/pacs/lookup2.php?cycle=2020&strID=C00693515
2- Democratic Campaigns have *less* money on hand and need help from small donors. Ossoff and Warnock both had about $5 million in the bank as of Oct 14 but ALL of that comes from donations under $2800 and 40-45% of those under $200. Bloomberg cannot write them a big check.
3- And this is key, because of campaign finance laws candidates get *major discounts* on advertising to persuade and turnout voters that SuperPACs like Fair Fight don't. This means the money you *earned working* (unlike Bloomberg) will go farther.
4- Campaigns ads are generally considered to be better! The main reason for this is that they can put the candidate on camera and deliver his/her message directly to voters. PACs can't do this and that's a major disadvantage.
I could go on but here is a link to split a donation between Warnock and Ossoff. I just donated $50. Will you match (whatever you can)? https://secure.actblue.com/donate/dscc-warnock-ossoff-runoff-nov2020
