I think this is a superficial piece. Let's see a map of Ohio showing blue & red population circles. If there is a column here, it's about gerrymandering & how Ohio Democratic leaders neglected to activate voters. Where was our Stacey Abrams? Where were our mayors, other leaders? https://twitter.com/clevelanddotcom/status/1325589690506940417
This is a population/vote bubble map. Ohio isn't blue or red; it's polarized between urban and rural. Gerrymandering and inert liberal leaders neuter the power of Ohio's urban voters....
One can even argue Ohio is polarized between the connected & disconnected. Note the darker red small dots that are isolated, away from transport networks. The circles get less red along interstates such as I-75 Toledo-Dayton. Ohio lost most of its rural bus & rail since the 70s.
This is Ohio's inter-city public transportation network in 1979. I compiled this map 11 years ago. I'll post the 2009 comparison map next.
And this is why so much of Ohio is so disconnected. Compare to the 1979 Ohio map. Also, internet service in rural Ohio is awful. So is package delivery. In the New Deal, Roosevelt brought electricity to rural America. We need to bring connectivity to rural USA to save democracy.
