In 2016 PA Dems were down to 79 seats in the House after losing 7 seats in 2014, 2 more in 2016, and 4 vacancies. With gerrymandered maps we picked up 14 seats by the end of the 2018 elections totaling 94 seats. As of the latest count we are likely losing 3 seats, picking up 1,
and three are too close to call. We held on to almost every single gain in suburban SEPA and came within 3 points of flipping 3 more seats in a record turnout year where thousands of provisionals and absentee ballots are still being counted.
We did not witness a “bloodbath” of downballot candidates in PA. We witnessed tens of candidates that worked their asses off, raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, met their win numbers and still lost by less than the margin of error.
There is work to be done, yes. But It is a disservice to call the progress we made in a record turnout year (seriously, thousands more people voted than in 2016 & 2018) a “bloodbath.” Thank your down ballot candidates for doing all they could and focus on the next cycle.
