Loving trans content in Star Trek.

One day they'll have a trans woman doing roles like this.
Also, one day they'll have nonbinary characters who aren't young, white and dfab, and one day they'll have visions of future gender which have radically diverged from present day.
Also liking making the transing of trill stuff being made canon.
Actually I don't want this to come off as a swipe at transmasc representation.

I would like to say I think that with the current crop of what's happening in streaming show sci fi content, it feels worryingly close to just reinventing 1920s era tomboy content.
The persistent youth element in particular runs the risk of trivialising trans and genderqueer characterisation as a fad to be grown out of. You don't have grown adult trans masc characters nor transfems in these worlds, so it fits the escape from femininity fantasy thing.
Trans women do appear quite a lot in drama, soap shows, or crime genre. I don't want to deny that there's a huge amount of that sort of representation already, maybe more than transmasc (at least historically, especially pre-2015)
A good half of trans women in American TV are transitioning as their main story line it seems, or else they are struggling with surviving being trans some other way and tragedy abounds, blah blah.. I love these shows but still a change would be nice.
Transmascs are an aspirational story in a weird way and transfems are a cautionary tale. Neither treatment allows much room for fully fledged human characters just being trans and getting on with life. Neither leaves room to imagine trans futures.
