Today I got an email from a family from the North who needs to come to @CHEO for several months and wanted to know if our Airbnb was available.
They’ve stayed with us before. They have two other kids and don’t want to stay in a hotel room for that whole time. I had to tell them that because of the choices #Ottawa city council made we lost our insurance so we shut down our Airbnb.
We lost money for the boy’s #autism therapy, our local shops lost a ton of money from our guests and us, and now a family has lost the ability to actually live in a place designed for a family while they go through horrible health issues for a child.
I’m so burnt out I’m not even angry anymore that our city councillor voted for a plan he admitted was flawed and hurt families. I’m just tired and sad. #autism
We lost our insurance for two reasons: 1. Because we would have to connect the basement to the house with a door which is a fire hazard (the same door the city made us remove to make the house legal a few years ago for that reasons) and
2. They didn’t trust the city to not make other rules, changes etc. that would impact us and them. Literally Ottawa City Hall is untrustworthy for the insurance business.
