I know a lot of us no longer want to bother with “understanding” MAGA. I have no interest in it myself. But it has always baffled me how the core tenet seemed to be a simple defiance of reality: anything that unconservative people say is the opposite of the conservative truth. 1/ https://twitter.com/mattsheffield/status/1324908316548493313
Fear of no future, fear that black people and brown immigrants might surpass them economically, driving an overwhelmingly contrarian reaction. They’re regressive reactionaries, not radical or conservative in any way, except to “conserve” some old idea about white supremacy. 2/
The concept of white supremacy has become white noise to them—they’re not wearing klan hoods, they’re church going families who just wanna preserve their traditions and work in the oil field like daddy and be SAHM like mama. I know “conservatives” very well.

to pressure anyone to try and understand their racist misogynist oppressors and people who’d rather see them die than see society progress and evolve. Mostly I think it’s useful to understand the commentary, and i can’t help but peek inside the mind of a reformed “Newsbuster.”
My conservative friend used to send me links to newsbuster when busting my liberal balls and it used to drive me nuts. I would just get flushed and incredulous at the total contortion of reality and the resistance to facts.
