Śiva Krōdhāgni Vega : Mahādeva's Anger

• What is śiva's fury?

When śiva is referred, words like nāśaka, parama vidhvaṃsaka, antaka, etc (which are denoting supreme destruction/ending/obliteration) are used to describe him. He's seen as the destroyer.
And on the other hand, he is āśutōṣa (whose heart is easily pleased), bholānāth (peak of innocence), vairāgī (untrapped in the ways of the cunning), karuṇāvatāra (embodiment of great compassion), sahajāvasthita (established in effortlessness).
As hara/हर, he's the destruction of the world. If he is peak of compassion, why does he destroy? What does he destroy? Why does he have fierce forms that lead to annihilation? How can he be the epitome of agony and yet be all compassionate?

What is this dichotomy?
There's no dichotomy.

Śiva destroys bondage, ignorance & duality. His forms facilitate destruction of Limited, for it to be Limitless. Just as the seed loses its shell to bloom as a tree.
His agony is for vidharma/विधर्म (injustice). That's why he's the embodiment of compassion.
Vidharma is anything acted out of ignorance leading to more & more bondages and away from the realisation of eternal truth of one's own Śivatva. He takes उग्र/ugra/fierce forms out of compassion. His agony is unwithstoodable, &, is his direct deliverance of us toward union/yoga.
Krōdhāgni means fire of anger. This fury of Mahādeva is a boon for us mortals. His anger is not be seen as similar to human anger. He's the basis of everything that there is and he is, at the same time, everything that there is. He's the basis and the based at the same very time.
When we talk of his anger, we are trying to communicate something which is existential, a principle of existence. It's not just about an emotion. Cosmic phenomena is being expressed in a way graspable to us. His Krōdhā ≠ human emotion of anger. Human anger can lead to bondage.
Whereas, the vega/वेग (outburst) of his Krōdhāgni leads to direct obliteration of each and every bondage. He gives दीक्षा/initiation. क्ष/kṣa of दीक्षा, abhinavaguptapādācārya says, denotes ending of bondages - क्षियते पाशबंधनम.

Hara is that which does harana/हरण :
गतेषु तेषु सर्वेषु तपस्वीसु महात्मसु ।
पिनाकपाणिर्भगवान् सर्वपाप हरो हरः ।।

All tapasvī (those who do penance) & mahātmā (great sages) left. Hara is the auspicious one who holds pināka (mahādeva's bow) in his hand & does destruction of all pāpa (action leading to bondages).
अघोरघोररूपाय घोरघोरतराय च |
नमः शिवाय शान्ताय नमः शान्ततमाय च ||

I bow down to the beautiful, yet frightening, so frightening that it frightens the fright itself. I bow down to śiva, the tranquil, the most tranquil.
Śiva's fury means enlightenment for us, the ignorant. It is the main cause of many streams of transmission of the knowledge towards liberation. Many master-disciple lineages. I will be talking about two such streams of transmission that emanate from his fury.
