HARVEST (2500 pcs x 3ksh per) -7500ksh
TRANSPORT (Mweiga-mbsa) -38,000ksh
WEIGH BRIDGE (Miritini) -5000ksh
PARKING FEE (kongowea mrkt) -600ksh
OFFLOADING CABBAGE FEE -800ksh
SELLERS FEE (inside market) -10,000ksh

Harvesting :
Cost 3 ksh per cabbage because
- you need someone cutting the cabbages, -people loading the cabbages to the lorry -someone inside the lorry packing it.
You need a reliable person who's done this for years, knows how to cut and pack according to different markets

2. Harvesting :
You need atleast 10 guys in the farm working as fast as they can to load up 2500 cabbages depending on size (large,medium, small )in a lorry in 3hrs
Hence 7,500 ksh

FH lorry - 8Tonnes
this is the figure you part with in the location i farm..( Nyeri, Nanyuki, Narumoru area)
May be even higher
If you find a good lorry driver you can pay him upfront of 15,000ksh for fuel and the rest later once your cabbages reach mombasa

2.Transport
You'll take 2 days before your produce gets sold.. heres why..
Harvest monday morning 8am,load and pack the lorry, start journey to mombasa noon.. get to mombasa next day morning,Tuesday join the line for your produce to be booked and sold Wednesday morning!

WEIGH BRIDGE - Miritini- 5,000ksh
This cost is on you the farmer coming to sell your produce in Mombasa market..

Once you get to the market, you get a number depending on how many lorries arrived before you you may be number 1 or 15 depends really..
You better hope you're in the top 5 because inside the market they only allow 4/5 lorries to sell .

2. Parking fee kongowea market
I say you better be top 5 because your lorry will park there until all the lorries before you sell their produce.. so number 15 you'll take day 3 or 4
Cabbages are perishables, its mombasa its warm , value decreases significantly..

Offloading fee - 800ksh
Once you get in the market(most organised and clean market I've seen so far) Offloading takes time, you have 8 guys doing that work fast. Have the cabbages on ground to release the lorry or you'll start paying extra for it.

Seller's fee - 10,000ksh
Don't want to call them brokers but i will.They're the people who will sell that produce for you.
You'll never manage to do it on your own.
These people have worked in that market for years,they have repeating customers.
Work with them, its the only way!

2.Sellers fee..
They have atleast 5 guys in the market they give piles of 300 cabbages to,put a price on and expect money after they're done selling.
This money is then tallied and given to the cabbage owner at the end of the day..

All your cabbages may not be sold on that first day, so if it remains.. its counted,stored and the next day sold.(another added advantage of kongowea market storage)
You also need to be here to receive your money or a trusted person - cant trust a stranger with your money!

Lastly have atleast 2000ksh for accommodation,
Those days you'll spend there you won't sleep on the floor.
Get a room, pay 500ksh to rest your head.. and hope for the best..

-70ksh big size , 50 medium , 30 small size
Bad day
- 50 big size , 35 medium , 20 small size
You always havw to mix your lorry so that you sell everything in your Farm!.
