I went and looked at another Mini Countryman Cooper S All4 last week. I've always considered it the closest affordable modern equivalent to the SG generation of Subaru Forester – AWD, turbocharged, tuneable, interesting, not a vastly dissimilar footprint, etc.

Quick reflection.

Positives:
- Neat detailing/interior
- No rattles
- Lots of aftermarket support
- Decent room
- Kit level
- OK ride

Cons:
- Felt leaden
- Coarse at high revs
- Clunky box
- Didn't feel that quick
- Unremarkable steering
- Some tech annoying
- Road noise

Did ~30mpg during my test drive, which was unremarkable.

Not as gratifying or as fun to drive as my tweaked Forester.

Costly, too (~£9k). A £6k/£7k one, with some less tech (didn't like the media system) and some tweaks, might be worth considering.
