Shawcross claimed - without evidence as far as I can see - that Islamic extremism is the "most deadly" threat to charities in England and Wales.

In fact, he acknowledged the issue was not currently widespread but claimed it was growing. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-27092885
He has written a number of deeply problematic articles - see this one entitled "Yes, the problem is 'Islamic fascism'" where he decries the fact "Muslim" was not emphasised more in reports about terrorism https://m.jpost.com/Opinion/Op-Ed-Contributors/Yes-the-problem-is-Islamic-fascism
His defence of extreme techniques is well documented

E.g. in his book, he defends waterboarding & attacks the Geneva conventions

https://amp.thenationalnews.com/arts-culture/books/justice-and-the-enemy-due-process-must-yield-to-terror-fight-1.407912
In fact in his book, it appears he is even more explicit about what forms of torture are okay e.g. sleep deprivation, forced nudity, prolonged wall standing, waterboarding

And apparently for him, so is extraordinary rendition

ICYMI Douglas Murray said “Conditions for Muslims in Europe must be made harder across the board”, called Islam an "opportunist infection", Muslims a "demographic time bomb", and that mosques should be “pulled down”

ICYMI: Mendoza, Founder & Executive Director of The Henry Jackson Society, is here speaking alongside Coulter, Milo, Robert Spencer & Katie Hopkins - what great company!
Back to Shawcross himself rather than those he associates with, and even thanks for shaping his views...

See here for him being upset that Foreign Office officials are not mocking Islam. That's how I see the quote below - judge for yourself
https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/britains-humiliation-william-shawcross/
And unsurpisingly, his views on Palestinians are awful

See here for his conversation with Netenyahu(!) about the murders by the Israeli regime during the Gaza protests.

He is fiercely an ideological person, with strident views about Islam, Muslims & extremism.

https://www.thirdsector.co.uk/profile-william-shawcross-chair-charity-commission/governance/article/1365006
That such a person with these extreme views about Islam, Muslims, torture & the breaking of laws (e.g. re: Guantanamo Bay) & who is close to many others with well established extreme anti-Muslim views, makes him being a frontrunner to lead a review into Prevent, incredulous.
He will be asked to review Prevent whose definition of extremism includes vocal opposition to the rule of law & tolerance of different faiths or beliefs

Given the above thread, it is very difficult to see how he can be considered suitable for the role
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/prevent-duty-guidance/revised-prevent-duty-guidance-for-england-and-wales#:~:text=The%20Government%20has%20defined%20extremism,of%20different%20faiths%20and%20beliefs.
People have told me that this is another example of the government trolling Muslims.

Whatever the intent, it is an astonishing state of affairs that Shawcross is even being considered.

Yet we must wait and see.
And worth noting that the man who was so extreme that the UK government banned him from entering the country*, is a fan of Shawcross being considered.
