Back in the day, people didn’t really talk about speech impediments. My parents legit told me that mine was an “accent” because my dad was from North Dakota. 😆

My public school provided one-on-one speech therapy to me in 3rd grade /3
My impediment is properly saying the “r” sound, especially in American English accents that pronounce it more fully. For this reason, it’s easier for me to say my last name with a German pronunciation than an American English one 😆 /4
A fair amount of actors, politicians, broadcasters, etc, actually have speech impediments. My theory is that we beat that public speaking fear every day.

Most people who hear me speak in public have no idea I used to really struggle to be understood as a kid.

Last week I was one of many briefers at my command’s newcomer orientation. I’ve tweeted before about how I love giving these briefs. Several people told me later that I was one of, if not the best, briefers. That was pretty cool to hear /fin
