D solution to incessant ASUU strike is total autonomy for universities. They shd fix fees, pay salaries, develop infrastructures etc. Govt can continue wth Tetfund intervention in some critical areas & pay subsidies 4 students directly to each Uni base on number of students
Further explanation on the above 👇
My studies have shown that most govt own Universities in Nigeria will break even with an average fee of abt 300k/students. Govt can choose to pay subsidy of about 200k/student directly to each Uni as a first line charge in the budget yearly
With this, average fees is brought down to around 100k per annum. Unis will be forced to improve their standards because they know that the more the students, the better the chance of staying afloat. They will also be more aggressive in generating revenue
This will improve d research standards & thereby attracting funding from private sector. In all, this approach wld tremendously improve our tertiary education. I have seen arguments from ASUU abt govt paying this & that, I have never heard any suggestion on hw 2 generate d money
Until we are ready to bite the bullet on this issue, we will continue to rigmarole at a spot
