The Mosque & Temple of Malka Hans
Home of 'Waris Di Heer'

Aain e Akbari gives us a scanty detail of the area between Sutlej and Ravi that was called Nakka Country
Here a little north west of Pakpattan, Hans resided as simple zamindars
During the decline of the Mughal Empire, Hans became more of independent rulers
It was during this time, around mid 18th century CE, that Waris Shah, a great Punjabi poet is believed to have arrived in Malka Hans.
A three domed mosque here is called Mosque of Waris Shah
For some time, Waris Shah made Malka Hans his home
Here in an associated Hujra of Waris Shah's mosque he composed his epic tale, the crown of Punjabi literature "Heer"
Waris Shah gives us the date when he finished writing his Heer 1180 AH (1766/1767 CE)

From the Hujra, at a 'glance length' is visible, shikara of an old temple
Storytellers of Malka Hans would tell you with a wink, of an ancient love affair
One Bhag Bhari whose love inspired Waris Shah to write the epic tale of Heer
Away from the myths of storytelling, we come across an imposing structure rich in history & architecture
The building with its ancient walls, floral frescos with faded yet bright and deep colours, wooden frames, facades, jaharokas and murals stood there in all exquisite detail
This temple-complex on the pages of history gets mentioned as Parnami Mandir
Its main shrine is reported to be a samadhi of one Daya Ram who in turn is reported as the founder of the Parnami sect of Hindus)
They say the temple was built by one Mahant Darbara Singh around 18th century CE
For once it housed a grand boarding school (paathshala) for religious students
People in their conversations tell the tales of a grand annual festival continued to be held a few years after partition
