Hello, welcome to a new thread that I’ll be updating frequently.
Here’s
what I learned in therapy today
Here’s

Perfectionists so often weaponize self-care against themselves.
When we turn it into another “should,” another bar set high, another expectation... what was supposed to be restorative is now another measuring stick that our inner critic is using to show us we’re failing.
When we turn it into another “should,” another bar set high, another expectation... what was supposed to be restorative is now another measuring stick that our inner critic is using to show us we’re failing.
It’s so hard to resist that urge — to not use our self-care practice as yet another way of reinforcing negative beliefs about ourselves.
But you don’t have to practice perfectly. Self-care is just about creating space to be.
Put the inner critic to rest. And be where you are.

Put the inner critic to rest. And be where you are.
This also means that self-care is not:
A pass/fail class
A way to “fix” yourself
Something you have to earn
Another way to become “good” at something
A project to perfect
Something that’s supposed to be “useful”
Another way to self-optimize

That’s why I’m introducing a new mantra to the internet:
Go lay down.
Seriously. You don’t have to do anything. You don’t have to perfect yourself or fix something.
Just... go lay down. Let yourself exist and let that be enough for a little while.
