Someone in my family was a team member of JASA. As someone who have witnessed JASA's work over the years, I'll tell you apa fungsi JASA from my understanding
JASA is political. JASA's main objective is to form the political narrative on its targeted citizens atas nama agama, bangsa dan negara. JASA ni dulu JHEK, Jabatan Hal Ehwal Khas. Fungsi asal JASA adalah untuk explain inisiatif2 gomen dalam laymen's term
Before slowly jadi unit yang tolong jaga air muka kerajaan kaw-kaw punya; churn out propaganda, form the political narrative etc etc
One thing about JASA, they are not new. They've been around since the 60s, and JASA bukan orang Melayu saja. People from all walks of life filled up the dept and they are trained to relate to the rakyat very, very well
And bear in mind, JASA's main aim is to keep the rakyat's support by playing with sentiments and narratives yang ideal to the Malaysia that they want. And JASA is very good at amplifying gov's image as penyelamat rakyat via its sets of initiatives
And JASA has such powerful spokepersons yang pandai manipulate their target audience and presented themselves as intellectuals. And they are very determined too. Diorang takde hal kalau be away for their homes berminggu-minggu for work, memang jenis turun padang, dengar
keluhan etc. Sebab orang-orang yang turun padang to meet the rakyat, are people just like me and you. Commoners, well taken care of the dept and fueled by the idea yang whatever they are doing is for a noble cause. They help projecting the image yang the leaders are saints
Cares for the people etc. And the leaders at that time pun rilek beramah mesra dengan rakyat, and rakyat suka.
But that's the thing, rakyat luar bandar are mainly their targets la, sebab easier. Just because. Orang bandar maybe mehkan je diorang ni, but they were a huge deal

And so ada orang kata I am naive for thinking that PH didn't have their own version of JASA.

Jabatan Penerangan: hebahan info secara general via TV, radio, on-grlund engagements, flyers etc
JASA: jaga hal ehwal politik. Eg: cyberwar, spy percaturan pihak lawan, masuk kampung etc
