3 years today since we stopped #105Keefer! What made #105Keefer so successful? It was the mass character of how we organized. We held "work parties" where #ChinatownYVR residents & youth analyzed power structures & made decisions collectively about strategy/tactics. #vanpoli 1/4

Petitions, delegations, speaking at hearings, mass rallies & direct actions were all designed to involve lots of people to build power. But also it was one-on-one organizing conversations & door-knocking that built the foundation of our people power -- trust & relationships. 2/4

It wasn't about a small group of elites or nonprofit professionals making top-down executive decisions. It was about truly listening, building community, and unleashing the agency of large numbers of Chinese working-class people thru collective direct action. 3/4

3 years later we so much to learn about our victories &, more importantly, our mistakes. #ChinatownYVR is in lot worse shape than it was back then. How do we overcome our differences in the face of multiple crises? Perhaps it's not a matter of "how" but a matter of "will". 4/4
