When you look around Europe, the picture is totally desperate.

Hospitals and ICU's are in turmoil, positivity and case rates are through the roof and essentially this is disastrous.

A fair minded person would suggest NPHET knew what they were doing, so here's a little rant: /1

Switzerland are in serious difficulty in their hospitals.

They are at 80% ICU occupancy with a 14-day incidence of 1,192.0 but parts of the west of the country is at 100% occupancy.

There are no beds but there are lots of sick people, which is a problem.

La-Chaux-de-Fonds is in Neuchâtel, which has a 14-day incidence of 3,140.0 per 100,000.

All non-covid healthcare is canceled in the region and they increased capacity by 250 beds overall but they're still full and transporting patients by helicopter to other hospitals.

Like Geneva, which has a 14-day incidence of 2,713.0 per 100,000, they have appealed for retired nurses and quote "anyone who knows something about medicine" to step forward.

A pretty vague plea but I think basically anyone with First Aid training is the type of help they want.

These scenes are being replicated throughout Europe.

In Warsaw, ambulance drivers are spending hours trying to find hospitals to take patients.

The Czech army has deployed 900 soldiers to hospitals to act as ambulance drivers etc to try ferry around patients to different ICU's in different hospitals.

Field hospitals have gone up in regions in Belgium, Spain, Czech Republic, Poland.

There are overstretched hospitals all over Europe, with a complete tsunami of sick people and we are not even into the depth of winter yet.

It is grating that people chose to call me names for saying this would happen, when all I did was pay close attention to the picture in Europe.

The threads I wrote near October 5th making the case for Level 5, had so many comments telling me NPHET were clueless and I was an even bigger idiot than them.

They don't look so clueless tonight, and while it can still change for the worse, for the moment...
