This is unacceptable. It should be a national disgrace.
It's also something that exists (to *vastly* varying scopes, see the study above) in some form in 48 states.
The right to vote should be guaranteed, and it's crucial to keep pushing for that: huge progress in recent years.

Some states have newly restored some people's voting rights post-sentence; some for anyone not incarcerated (California JUST THIS WEEK!!!); and D.C. has entirely abolished disenfranchisement.
