Starting my menstrual cup journey tonight. Stay tuned for the thread below this tweet.
Firstly, this decision been a long time coming. I was back and forth about it for at least a year. When I was like yea I super wanna try this, I reached out on the TL for reviews. Shoutout to @Wildflower_K @jamjam_moriarty & @itsShay_nell for answering all my questions

Now, prior to even getting reviews I had seen a cup quiz on the TL. I will admit I took it multiple times to see if I would get the same recommendation each time. I took it at alternative periods so I dont even know if I selected the same answers each time.
For those interested, here is the link to the quiz https://putacupinit.com/the-menstrual-cup-quiz-v2/

I was recommended the Saalt Soft cup. I decided to order a duo pack with a regular size and a small size because I wasn't sure what size I would need. Admittedly, for the time being, I will only be using the small cup.
My cups came in this packaging (cardboard), And came with an instruction & tips guide, a #PutACupInIt sticker, educational pamphlet and charity thingy. Also, the black/grey cup is the regular and the pink is the small. They also came with the storage pouches, which are super cute
It is advised that cups be sterilised before use, normally by boiling. Now I’m not gonna risk burning my cup so I did some research and found out that you can essentially soak it in boiling water in a closed container for the same amount of time, as a ‘steam’, and that works
So I got a bowl that I will now only be using for that purpose so that it can be sterilised as necessary. Whilst on your period you only need to worry about washing it between changes, which can be done with a special cup wash or just your regular, non irritating soap.
I also decided that before my period I wanted to at least try getting it in and seeing what cup fold would work best for me. Im very easily agitated and it’s worse on my period so I wasn’t going to wait to try and figure it out
The instruction manual illustrated three of the most common folds used, but put a cup in it has YouTube videos with other folds as well. I found that the punch down fold works best for me as it was the easiest to get in and get the cup to open.
So today is day one. Because I’m out today I put it in this morning. I’m unsure of if my period has started, but so far i haven’t seen any leaks, and if my cramps arent phantom cramps then that means I safe.
I tried to insert three times. It was recommended that u wet the cup to help with lubrication so i did it in the shower. I also washed it with a lil bit of my soap as well before inserting
Im not sure if it opened, honestly. I felt around and didnt feel like it was still folded so I guess I’ll know better later. Overall this is a lowkey exciting time. Also, I dont feel like anything is there, it’s like a normal ass day with no cup - feelings wise
Okay guys so my period did show up as expected. I went all day with my cup with no issues. As I said previously, I didnt even feel it there. I had one lil leak a few mins before i took it out though, I actually felt the cup shift down so I’m guessing it was full.
As for if it was actually full idk because my removal technique is in the ghetto rn. I need to figure out how to take it out like a pro.
I removed mine in the bathroom, just to be safe. How i squeezed the cup it was a tad messy, but all that washed right down the drain. No complaints though. I popped it back in but I’ll empty and put it back in before bed cause aint no way I’m waking up after 6 in the morning
Overall day one with the cup was pretty great. I was out all day and didnt have to worry about where I’d find a bathroom stall so I could change or where I could throw my tampons after the fact. Rn it’s giving me 10/10
Aaand we have a leak. I think it’s cause I used the toilet and the muscle pressure pushed the cup down. That was mentioned in one of the videos I watched. Definitely sumn to be mindful of
Last night was. Lol. After an unnecessary change cause I thought it shifted from me coughing, I woke up like 3 ish hours later to leaking. I dont know why it was leaking, I’m assuming it was full but it’s been about 4 ish hours since I emptied and replaced it and no leaks.
This is truly a journey yes. The videos and so I watched said it takes about 2-3 cycles for u to really get the hang of it. I may have to try my regular sized cup at night though. We will see what today brings .
Okay so I had a leak. I think it’s the pressure from my bowel moving and me needing to ‘break wind’ from my rear end
. Anyways by the time i sat on the toilet i could feel that the cup had suctioned again and by two-three wipes i could see that it was no longer leaking

Monitoring it as the day progresses to see. If I start sneezing it’s gonna get wild. My sinus better hold it down today
As of my last change I havent had much issues. A few hiccups but i think it’s the cup possibly shifting when my muscles are being used. I’ve really only been spotting to wipe so i guess I’m not really leaking. If anyone can help with this, hmu. This really is a learning curve
So i switched to the regular sized cup. It was a bit harder to get this one in, but i got it and dont even know it’s there. It did make a kinda funny pop feeling a while after, but i was told that just meant it opened. So far I have no issue with this one
I am still getting hints of very dilute blood when I wipe (lil spots) but that could just be because there’s blood below the cup from before i put it there. It definitely isnt leaking.
I do tend to bleed heavy the first couple days and nights so i guess I’ll have to use this one for my heavy days and the small for my light ones
Right so with the regular sized cup both times I've put it in i've felt it pop open after a lil while (even though I thought it was already open). I like that cause at least I know for sure it's open. I shouldnt have issues tonight like I did last night and I love that for me
I will say though, that pop thing was real unexpected. I got scared. At least now I know what it is.
Also, the slower and steadier you take out the cup the less mess it makes.
Woke up to no leaks.
It was really good going to bed and not worrying bout waking up to a mess or waking to rush to the bathroom to change. I love it here

Removed it after 11 hours. The cup was really only 1/4 full, which was shocking. I also realize that it had shifted a bit higher than where i had placed it. I could probably go back down to the small cup but amma see how the day goes
The 7 fold isnt so bad either. A bit easier to insert the larger cup with it
. It’s day 3 and everything about inserting and removing is also becoming easier. The paranoia is also lessening

Also I think my body is getting more used to it as well. It really just suctions and climbs on up there now. Loool
Okay so my last two changes were a bit more difficult, probably because my period had slowed. Switched back to my small cup and after 12 hours it barely filled the base. As such I’m gonna finish tonight and tomorrow with liners cause I’m just dripping at this point
Overall it was a pretty good experience. Definitely not going back to tampons and pads. Special shouout to @itsShay_nell and @jamjam_moriarty for being there for me. It definitely made the journey much easier being able to have my specific questions answered.
Also, seeing the blood really wasn’t as gruesome or nasty as I expected. Tbh I was actually kinda fascinated and u could really see how things changed from start to finish.
If yall want I can do a condensed thread with my lil tips that I learned
