Super stoked to have all of these wonderful Maori minds and hearts in the new govt. Now it's for us all to support them to make the best calls they can. Transformational change happens because we ALL get in there... so here's my #WishList...
ALL Māori MPs - if you aren't working for constitutional reform that centers Te Tiriti and truly reflects the power sharing relationship therein, you are committing us to perpetual subjugation. I expect you all to work towards a #TiritiCentered constitution. THIS TERM.
This is the first time a Māori MP has held both portfolios of Minister for Children and Minister for Corrections. @NgatiBird you will LITERALLY control the state-care-to-prison pipeline. Please shut it down. I already know @MaramaDavidson will work with you to do so.
SO MANY environmental issues that disproportionately impact Māori occur in the transnational space (climate change, overfishing, plastic pollution, free trade agreements). @NanaiaMahuta and @KiriAllan your collective efforts will be required to advocate for justice in this space
@KiriAllan Raukumara whanau will be working closely with you now on our journey to demonstrate what iwi and hapu can do when we are supported to reclaim our ecological management roles. BIG talks remain about the significant tracts of stolen Maori land in the conservation estate
@WillieJLabour with no Maori assoc Min role in MSD we'll be relying upon you to advocate for strong support for Maori communities in MSD covid recovery funding, esp us rurally isolated ones. Great wins with poutama rangatahi let's carry those learnings across to covid recovery.
@WillieJLabour and @KiriAllan covid resilience for Maori communities does NOT look like waiting for food trucks to arrive from whomever won the govt tender. Food sovereignty needs to be prioritised AND this also aligns with being climate resilient as well.... win/win.
@WillieJLabour @KiriAllan @NgatiBird @PotoChchEast collective work around growing Maori wardens & embed in the CDEM infrastructure, reduce police demand during & beyond COVID. Min Mahuta started this work its important to continue, it WILL lower apprehension & incarceration rates
@WillieJLabour @KrisinMana @NanaiaMahuta @KiriAllan @PeeniHenare collective work around progressing Te Pae Tawhiti response to WAI262 esp in the fields of foreign trade, culture & heritage, rongoā, conservation AND ESPECIALLY science and research. Pls advise Min Woods accordingly
@PeeniHenare for the love of god please sort out the pay disparity for nurses working 4 Māori health providers. Collective work also with @NanaiaMahuta around our participation in RIMPAC. It violates human, indigenous and environmental rights.
@mekawhaitiri @PeeniHenare @WillieJLabour @KiriAllan @KrisinMana Digital integrity plays a huge role in QUALITY leadership, in e-commerce development, in kotahitanga/community cohesion, in covid response/recovery, in conservation, in Māori health. PLEASE invest & support.
@NgatiBird @priyancanzlp @WillieJLabour @PotoChchEast time to work together to secure a hate crime register for Aotearoa, review the role of racism in NZ Universities and education in general and build a cross-agency program to address institutionalized racism in NZ govt.
@packer_deb and @Waiariki_Cowboy no doubt you will both pursue the Māori Party manifesto, most of which is great - but please DITCH the immigration ban housing policy.
@teanau_tuiono @MaramaDavidson @EKerekere kotahi noiho taku tono kia koutou - whakamāoritia tonu te kaupapa kākāriki. Kaua e hiki o panekōti mā ngā kaikiri kākāriki.
I really don't like the whole "I'm putting you on notice" thing that others do to MPs when they get in... these are all the workstreams I'm saying we need to ALL work on, and support our MPs to achieve and focus on.
