Why community radio rocks, a thread.

We're coming down to the end of the @CKCUFM funding drive, and I had a story for you. Yesterday on the funding drive show, we had @HeatherBadenoch on to update her experience as a living liver donor, and ... 1/15
now as an advocate and coach for people in need of liver transplants, like Sherri Barr, who was in need when we first spoke, and joined us yesterday to tell us how great she was feeling after her transplant.

But here's something we DIDN'T talk about on air. 2/15
After Heather was on the show in summer 2019, she got an email from someone with questions about organ donation. This happens to her quite a bit. She did a quick google of the person's name, and discovered that they were from the Prairies. A little less normal, but ... 3/15
then she saw the person's Twitter account, and saw that they had tweeted out a link to our interview. She went on to answer the person's questions, and the last she had heard, the person was partway through the donor screening to become a living liver donor. 4/15
By now, that person may have become a donor, and someone in a difficult health situation had their life changed in part because someone heard Heather. It's easy to dismiss community radio because it's such a volunteer-driven enterprise. 5/15
But when community radio supports musicians or events, they drive sales and tickets and listens. There's an engagement that happens, and that MATTERS. 6/15
If you believe in community radio, and in CKCU, support it. If your donation is $20 or more, you get a tax receipt. 7/15
If you support my show #canihaveaword on @CKCUFM with a donation of any amount, you get a chance at a Rachel Beausoleil CD package. 8/15
If you donate $45, you get a chance at gourmet takeout from @EssenceCatering ; a $90 donation gets two chances; $135 gets three... you get it. 9/15
Our funding drive is already over $100K, despite ... everything that’s been going on. Our goal is $150K. Help us reach it. http://www.ckcufm.com/pledge  10/15
There are over 100 volunteers who make programs at CKCU. When the pandemic hit, we went from 24/7 live to everything being made at home and broadcast on ‘tape.’ It was a big change. 11/15
CKCU welcomed a new Executive Director this year, @kwendeismemetic. Despite shut studios and offices, he’s been a great addition, and I know he’s going to make some positive, exciting change at the station. 12/15
This year has been hard on a LOT of people. Layoffs, stress, uncertainty. If you’re just can’t help CKCU, I get it. But if you have even a few bucks to donate during the one period when we ask for support, we would appreciate it SO much. http://www.ckcufm.com/pledge  13/15
If you love local music, local art, local causes — #communityradio is a place where those things are born and nurtured. Your donation will help CKCU stay vibrant, lively, and rooted in #ottawa. 14/15
And if you got this far in the thread... my respect to you. I sure can blather, can’t I? http://Www.ckcufm.com/pledge .
