a thread especially created for @MonarchBluelady :)
I really dislike the idea that you’re putting down the struggle of our entire country for centuries for unknown reasons, but I’d really like you to stop putting us down so here’s all the evidence you asked for I guess
The British invaded Ireland in 1169, as part of the British conquest, and they really took it hard on us, Irish people were forced to forget their Polytheistic Pagan roots in favour of following Catholicism, we were forced to give up our language, and (1)
(3) our traditions, our heritage and more, telling everyone around the globe we were savages and making propaganda books and comics calling us monkeys, saying we were lesser than humans, and that we did not deserve empathy
(4) I’m so sorry that this thread is so messy but I’m literally shaking trying to make it bc I can’t believe someone as heartless as you exists, but anyway, they made up lies about us, saying we bathed in blood and ate our own babies
the famine, under further research, was also a move by the British to starve the Irish so that we would die, there was plenty of food in Ireland, the wealthier British lords just made it impossible for us to have food, and shipped it off to England,
I’m not used to the twitter format but I’ve been linking two sources to everything I say just so you know :)
people from Ireland who had the money then tried to flee to America, in search of employment and food, only to be met with the same cruel treatment as the people of colour there, so, there’s that:
but some people had to stay in Ireland, and British managed to starve over a million Irish people to death, and it was a Genocide, since they stole our food
some people then ask why we only grew potatoes, surely if we had other food sources then we wouldn’t have starved, right? but in fact, the British didn’t allocate us enough land to grow any other crops, the only thing we could grow in the low-quality soil without
taking up a lot of space was potatoes, and when the blight hit we had nothing else to eat, we were forced to eat grass
so it should be no surprise to you that we tried to rebel against this system multiple times, but of course, we were a small Island divided up and they were one of the post powerful militaries on the planet at the time, so we couldn’t do it
one of the most famous rebellions was the 1916 Easter Rising: see here

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Rising
although this failed, it was a massive socialist movement, and it showed the value of Irish women, and it inspired so many Irish people, even if we failed, it was a show of what being Irish actually stood for, equality and feminism and socialism
so anyway that’s a brief summary of some of the horrible events that have happened in Irish history with full evidence, like you asked
you can read this source about how Northern Ireland came to be, and that is where we are talking about, facing oppression, as we live here identifying as Irish People on the island of Ireland: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Northern_Ireland
so now we’ll discuss the hatred Unionists and Loyalists have for us, but it all surrounds the fact that we have rebelled against British Rule before. For two days a year, they celebrate this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Boyne
It’s important by now to note that Irish people succumbed to following a Catholic Religion, whilst Britain was commonly following Protestantism, see the creation of protestantism: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reformation
it wad a Protestant King, vs a Catholic King, and for this they celebrate it for some reason??? idk but anyway on the 11th of July they make bonfires with hate speech on them directed at the Irish: see here
and here, note the racism
and here
and another source since you seem to like those: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eleventh_Night
here is one of the most popular songs they sing around that time, you can read about it here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Boys
and here are the lyrics, note that the word “fenian” refers to Irish people in a derogatory way
and here’s one of the worst ones, mocking the Irish famine and the people who died: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famine_Song
but I’ll not bore you with any more, there are bands that sing these every year, and there are competitions etc: https://cain.ulster.ac.uk/loy/bands.html
I don’t know what other evidence you want, there are videos of the bands marching along our streets singing these on youtube?
so we are still fighting for Irish language rights here, I attended one of the only Irish language secondary schools in Northern Ireland, and we had to fight about getting the right to have a school bus bc they didn’t recognise us as a real school: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-15450402
this bus was important because pupils were forced to walk through protestant areas to get to school, and they were facing serious abuse for it, one of the most famous incidents of this was broadcast all over the world and it was the Holy Cross school incident: links to follow
I hope you can see the terror on the faces of these CHILDREN as they face this abuse
sadly this was not, is not, and never will be the only incident of this happening, these girls were forced to walk to school having bricks, bottles/balloons filled with urine and BOMBS, LITERALLY BOMBS, thrown at them and their parents, they were forced to be protected by police!
holy cross school wasn’t even an Irish language school, they were just Catholic children; so you can imagine what Irish speaking children face
I was on the bus home from school when I was 15 years old and a man recognised my uniform and called me an “ugly fenian slut” and followed me off the bus and down the street and continued to yell at me and harass me until I was in tears
so now you’ll understand the fight for the Irish language Act, as detailed here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Language_Act
but if you can get through that and have any other ridiculous remarks or questions PLEASE LET ME KNOW
there you go @MonarchBluelady and DONT WORRY! I HAVE SO MUCH MORE EVIDENCE IF YOU NEED IT
