Under the circumstances, I can't see that @wbpictures had much of a choice regarding Johnny Depp but they do have a choice regarding his ex-wife. It speaks volumes that those who studied all the available court evidence disagree with the libel action conclusion.
Those who followed diligently also saw the statement which came too late to be heard in court: a statement from the former employer & close friend of his ex-wife's sister. The charity organiser was subpoenaed in the US & said that Depp was the victim.
This woman took in Depp's then sister-in-law after she was made homeless by her own sibling. During their working and living together, she was told several times that Depp was being physically abused to the extent that his wife chopped off his finger.
This witness also confirmed that the abuse was not limited to Depp and extended to his sister-in-law. She was expected to avoid Depp's lawyers and asked to ignore them, but a US subpoena isn't optional.
Read for yourself how being put in that situation has impacted this witness, who has no loyalty to Depp but simply told the truth: https://www.instagram.com/p/CHLHoP-J-EQ/?igshid=17cjaawjjdmhm
Many of my friends have asked me what I make of the UK judgement. I think justice wasn't served but the judge was given half the story. The Sun called in Depp's ex as a witness with selected evidence. Chapters of a story aren't the whole story. We need the whole story.
We need the testimony of the witnesses who were tossed out of the UK net or approached too late. In a US defamation case which is pending next year, Depp & his ex will go head-to-head, without the safety net of The Sun. There will be nowhere to hide for either of them.
Now, I don't particularly admire Depp. I find nothing attractive about a middle-aged addict with obvious demons. What I find even less attractive, however, is the idea that this must automatically make him an abuser & his ex-wife, by virtue of her gender, is inherently truthful.
I heard the audio where one party admitted to hitting the other and getting angry that their spouse would run away whenever they started to fight. I heard the audio where the same party admitted that they couldn't promise not 'to lose it' again. That party wasn't Johnny Depp.
Add to that a slew of CCTV videos, medical reports, witness testimony & photography & there's something extremely disturbing about how narrow a witness pool & analysis scope was available for the UK libel proceeding.
As the media ravages the players & the alleged 'villain' in this far too epic celebrity saga, those of us in the back row are taking in the full view.

Johnny Depp: I think you're an arse but you're also a victim... a victim of abuse, the media & the UK's flawed legal system.
